Right sir. Completely take the point that Microsoft has become so much part of everyone's life that it is very difficult to get it out of our life and system... for a good amount of time.
Also true that Google Chrome OS is targeted at Notebooks. But it can always be foreseen that it might hit the desktops soon. First they had Adroid, now Notebook, soon in few years it may as well hit Desktops.
But the focus that Google seem to have is at Web usage - make OS light-weighted to boot-up soon and give features helping the web-usage and not for a full-fledge 'only-desktop' usage.

As u pointed out sir, their privacy policy has always been an issue. Our confidential data cannot be left with them. But the point to check would be how much Gears will help in converting all online-applications to Desktop applications. Even then, it would be difficult for Google to provide all services without web. So, only after Web becomes order/norm of the day with confidence in safe data on web servers, would it be possible for the world to dump Microsoft products, especially its OS and Office suite.

Hi Kicchu,
I am with you on this Wayne Parmer issue. It was kind of funny to see Wayne struggling to make a decision as a president, while he was dishing out exactly the same to his brother when he was his advisor. Or is it actually reflective of the reality - we all would like to be the one who influences a decision, but never a decision maker, lest we are held culpable ?

Going by Carlos Bernard's interview, perhaps we might find out why he turned for the worse. Though the plot seems original, as yet I am not ready to accept the twists to be natural !

I was quite excited initially with all these new features Mail has to offer, however when the time has come (a few weeks ago) and I had to reinstall the Leopard, it was then when I realised how much hassle there is with backing up all emails. Even if all your Mail folder is backed up on your time machine - to restore all your emails will take you ages - if you like me, have large number of sub folders under your Inbox.
This was the time when I've realised that it's time to switch - and I got back to the Thunderbird - which I was using earlier on the PC.

The great thing about the Thunderbird is that to backup all your emails - including the folder structures, all accounts etc. - all you need to do is to copy the folder from the Library and after you've reinstalled your system simply copy it back to the same location - start up Thunderbird and everything looks as it was before. This is one of the main reasons why I'm sticking to Thunderbird.

Hmm...
Sir, with G getting multiple products of its offline now (Gmail, Gcal, Gdocs), can it to some extent lead to same, with an added advantage of having stuff on local system as well as on web (available both in office and office!)

I still agree, Gears Offline is still not pucca... but can the future be?

Very true sir...
It requires one to implement & deliver and another to document it... but most of the time the documentator will not have half the knowledge of an experienced guy...

This transfer of knowledge, as can be said, will keep the IQ levels of future generation improving, else it can get into a loop... each spending almost same amount of time to do the same thing again and again... guess, its one way of keeping humans busy! :P

gmail offline is a good alternative. But what one needs in a collaborative environment is tools that enable collaboration. Email is only aspect of this. It is in this respect Outlook has its design specs right!
